Charley Crell, superintendent at The Dogwoods, undertook a very detailed purchase assessment before making his decision to buy Jacobsen. He had demonstrations from the major manufacturers, interviewed their local dealers and compared pricing.

In the end the decision was made to purchase the new turf equipment from Ladd’s with David Brown, the company’s regional sales manager, being an influential part of the decision making process.

Commenting on the decision to buy Jacobsen, Crell stated, “David did an excellent job in demonstrating the equipment and explaining to me the competitive edge that Jacobsen brings to the table with their quality-of-cut across their entire product line.”

The Dogwood’s package included AR-522™ and TurfCat® 600 rough rotary mowers, Green King™ IV diesel riding greens mowers with Turf Groomer® attachments, LF-3800™ fairway mowers, Cushman® DS-175 SprayTek® and Cushman® Turf-Truckster® utility vehicles.

Golf Digest has rated The Dogwood’s 18-hole course, designed by Gary Roger Baird, ninth on their ‘Best in State’ list for Mississippi in 2009-2010. Thirty-foot-tall dogwood trees line the course, which is set on tranquil, sloping property overlooking the 63,000-acre Grenada Lake in north-central Mississippi.

The Dogwoods is built on an impressive scale, with greens as large as 10,000 square feet and fairways up to 80 yards wide, all garnished with rough-edged Alister MacKenzie-inspired bunkering and mounding.
